Intempo PG-01 DAB radio

January 2004 - .What Hifi?

The Intempo PG-01 is very much in the same style as the Evoke-2, and at first glance it seems to have the upper hand; it's smaller, lighter and less expensive, yet still has FM and Digital reception. When you plug it in and slide out its telescopic aerial it delivers a clean sound whether on FM or Digital, and has a clear, informative display. In addition, four presets are available on each band, and there's alarm and sleep functions plus a headphone socket.

We find something wholesome and reassuring about a beech-veneered wireless that sits atop your fridge, belting out 'Desert Island Discs'. Intempo's PG-01 is exactly that. All soft curves and elegant controls ... its what you'd buy Auntie Mavis to introduce her to digital radio. And with its dual FM/digital functions, preset buttons, alarm clock and sleep mode, she'd be so grateful, you'd never go hungry for home-made scones.

Intempo's digital kitchen radio only has one real competitor, and thats Pure Digital's Evoke-2. At a glance, both look very similar, because they share a very attractive beech-wood finish. Both have stereo speakers and an FM tuner sitting alongside the digital one. For what its designed to do its a delight - and its GBP40 cheaper than Pure's offering.

December 2003 - Independent

The joys of DAB radios are gradually becoming more affordable. The intempo Digital bears more than a passing resemblance to the splendid and deservedly popular Evoke-2, out earlier this year. You may take to the sleek brushed metal handle and front plate, or, and this is really the point, the fact that this radio is GBP40 cheaper than its rival. It may still be more than you are willing to pay for a kitchen radio, but you do get all those extra channels, not to mention wonderful clear reception, and the built-in stereo speakers to make the most of those digital broadcasts.
