The station rebrand ends confusion with Preston and Blackpool's Rock FM and allows the station to simulcast on DAB digital radio, ending a potential name conflict between the two different stations on the displays of DAB receivers. It is understood the classic rock format of the station will be retained. Real Radio XS will be broadcast on DAB across the North-West region. The Rock Radio format currently broadcasts across Yorkshire and the North-East English regions. Rock Radio also appears on the regional DAB digital radio multiplex serving South Wales and The West. It is not yet known whether Real Radio XS will be carried on the multiplex, as Neath and Port Talbot's community station XS already broadcasts to the area on FM, which might cause confusion for radio listeners in South Wales. Glasgow-based 96.3 Rock Radio is being sold off by parent company GMG Radio, with a management buyout on the cards. It is not yet known whether the DAB slots on Edinburgh and Glasgow's local DAB radio multiplexes will be included within any sale. |
