The Sonus 1XT's SnoozeHandle has also made it onto the Evoke 3 - a tap on the carry handle on the Sonus 1XT brings up a female voice announcing the time. Ten presets, arranged across 5 buttons and a shift key, are combined with a rotary dial for station selection - it's a foolproof arrangement.

A quick turn of the dial and, after a momentary pause, the name of the station is spoken. A press of the dial selects the station - simple. New stations that have launched since the arrival of the 1XT result in an "unknown" station tag being spoken, but hopefully updates via USB and the Pure website will be forthcoming.

A sleep timer - programmable from 15 to 90 minutes in quarter-hour increments - is a useful feature. The Sonus will speak alarm time settings - a real boon to visually impaired listeners.

Sonically, the Sonus is at its best in stereo with the additional XT-1 speaker powered up. In its mono form, though, the Sonus 1XT is on a par with the excellent Evoke 1XT, which we really like.
