Pure Oasis portable DAB digital radio - water resistant and weatherproof 10th December 2005
Overview
As if listening to DAB digital radio stations in your own home isn't enough, how about packing the Pure Oasis weatherproof DAB digital radio in with your angling gear before heading down to the river?
The Pure Digital Oasis loads a DAB digital receiver into an aluminium and rubber sealed case, with a built-in rechargeable battery known as a ChargePAK that can be hooked up to the mains to give the internal battery a boost. This means the Pure Oasis is both mains and battery powered, so can be taken out and about.
The Pure Oasis DAB radio also features a 3.5mm stereo input, increasing its connectivity and allowing you to plug in an MP3 player, MiniDisc machine or other external audio device for instant playback on the Oasis.
Tested to international (IP64) standards, the Pure Oasis is noted as weatherproof and can be used out in the garden or even in the bathroom, where it would otherwise be dangerous to use mains voltage radios. Rubber caps keep water away from inputs and outputs, while the fascia is recessed so that buttons aren't easily knocked. Rubber bumpers positoned on the edges of the Pure Oasis radio ensure knocks and scrapes don't harm the electronics inside.
The Pure Digital Oasis weatherproof (but not classed as waterproof - just water resistant) DAB digital radio portable is available to buy now at around GBP119.00.

"The look and feel is very much 'iPod' and this smart looking radio is tough as well as 'weatherproof' with it's metal 'frame' and recessed faces.
"Tuning is a doddle via the automatic function and, for those inclined, there is a manual tuning feature. There are only four presets for storing your preferred stations but the ordering feature cleverly puts your favourite stations at the top of the tuning list.
"The info button can be used to access notes on the current broadcast, time and date, provider, channel and frequency, kbps and mono/stero, signal quality and battery status. The LCD backlight can also be left on which makes life a little easier.
"The aerial is detachable and can be stored in the recessed slot at the back of the radio. On the right hand face there are the headphone, aux in, USB and power sockets. The headphone and aux in points require a 3.5mm jack but I don't see where I would use either feature. The USB port allows connection to a PC in order to upgrade the software on the radio. Surprisingly, no USB cable is provided.
"I've charged the onboard 'ChargePak' twice since Christmas Day 2005, using the radio every day for at least an hour from the bathroom to the kitchen, from the attic to the garden (in the snow and rain).
"The real strength of the Oasis is its weather-resistant portability and the only weakness in my opinion is its size. Highly recommended if you like to listen to the radio wherever you are and whatever the weather."
"My old tranny goes for six or more months without new batteries, but the signal is terrible. All I want is a bathroom DAB radio that has a decent battery life"
