Out goes the shiny black, white or pink finish and in comes an uber-cool soft-touch feel. Mirror-finish chromed buttons of the old One mini give way to more restrained satin-finish controls that make the Pure One mini Series II look more like a £50 radio than a cheap budget competitor. In short, the One mini Series II has been carefully tweaked to make it more visually appealing against the plethora of looky-likey, own-brand, inferior DAB receivers. Like its predecessor, the Pure One mini series 2 takes a custom rechargeable battery pack, the ChargePAK B1, which retails for around £25. It's a useful addition and makes the Series II completely portable - ideal for use in the garden or on a UK holiday. The One mini also features a handy headphone socket alongside a 3.5mm audio input socket for connection of an mp3 player to the unit. While the sound from the 3 inch full-range driver in the Series II is not going to set the world alight, the radio manages a much fuller sound than other cheap rivals. The radio's vital mesurements are 130mm wide x 135mm high x 60mm deep (excluding controls) and the low-power standby of under 1 Watt, with 3 Watts in use will appeal to eco-savvy consumers. Audio power output is rated at 1.6 Watts maximum. Uk models will receive standard vanilla DAB and FM; those sold abroad in Australia, for example, will be able to pick up the country's DAB+ broadcasts. The Pure One mini Series II is available in a black or white soft-touch finish online right now at under £50. The Pure One mini original model is still available at time of going to press. |
