Encore on DAB digital radio and online
Sunday, 23rd October 2016
Want more, more, more West End and Broadway favourites? Encore!

A brand new radio station playing music and memories from films and West End & Broadway musicals is available from Monday 24th October. Launching at 1pm Encore is available to listen to online and on DAB digital radio across Hertforshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey & North Sussex, Essex, Kent & the South-East. It's also available across large areas of London, thanks to overspill from these primary coverage areas.

Encore will also broadcast showbiz news, weather, backstage gossip and show reviews, with programmes presented by well-known presenters such as pop band member Blue and West End Star Duncan James, former Classic FM presenter Jamie Crick, and TV and radio personality Liz Wickham. There will also be broadcasts from opening nights at the West End.

The station's developing playlist is drawn from long-running shows such as 'Les Miserables' and 'The Phantom of the Opera', with more recent smash hits 'Aladdin', 'Matilda' and 'Wicked' and forthcoming musical 'Hamilton'. Songs from 'Singing in the Rain' and 'West Side Story' also feature.

The digital radio station is supported by UKRD, which owns and operates several locally-based stations from bases in London and Guildford.

To get Encore, you may need to first tune to a station that already broadcasts on DAB in Herts, Beds & Bucks, Kent, Essex or Surrey, North Sussex & South London. Then, look for the station name ENCORE in your station list. You can also retune your DAB digital radio to see if you can pick up the station, if you live in and around London, the South-East and Northern Home Counties or the Southern Counties, within the coverage area for Encore.

The service is one of a tiny number of stations that has launched dedicated to film soundtracks and musicals. Flix Radio launched back in January 2001 initially on the Coventry local digital radio multplex before appearing in other places such as Bristol, with further expansion plans put on hold due to the slow uptake of DAB. Flix Radio closed around 18 months after launch. Encore is launching in a much stronger market, with many people choosing DAB digital radio as a way to listen to exciting new services.

To receive DAB digital radio services, you need a newer type of radio which can pick up both DAB and DAB+ digital broadcasts over the airwaves through its built-in aerial, to make sure you've a future-proofed way of listening to DAB digital radio.
