Muxco Mid and West Wales

Thursday, 27th March 2008 (updated 5th Jan 2009)
MuxCo take DAB to West Wales

MuxCo is lining up simulcasts of Radio Pembrokeshire, Radio Carmarthenshire, BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru for the West Wales region, following its successful award of a DAB digital radio licence for the area.

MuxCo Lincolnshire plan to bring new current and classic hits service Wales Live to the area when the multiplex launches in July 2009 [5th Jan 2009: MuxCo now propose "by early 2010"].

A number of downloadable podcasts are also in the pipeline. The set of services are due to launch in Spring 2010.

The licence advertisement reserved two DAB blocks - 12D in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire and 10C in Ceredigion and Powys. The block 10C will not currently be used.

MuxCo are proposing four transmitters across Swansea (Kilvey Hill), Carmarthen (Carmel), Cardigan (Preseli) and Fishguard. The Kilvey Hill and Fishguard transmitters are planned to launch within 2 years of the multiplex switch-on.

No transmitters are yet planned to cover Powys due to the difficulties in providing coverage to the area without having to install a large number of transmitters.
