Thursday, 15th November 2007 Two more sites are on-line for national commercial DAB radio stations.
Classic rock music station Planet Rock, jazz music station theJazz and pop music channel Core can now be heard by thousands more people, thanks to the switch on of a new transmitter at Chesterfield in Derbyshire. The transmitter was powered up earlier this month (9th November).
The switch on means that Virgin Radio, talkSPORT and Classic FM are now being broadcast on DAB digital radio in and around these areas. Another transmitter based at Workington in Cumbria has also been switched on.
Following the switch-on of the new digital radio transmitter, listeners with a DAB digital radio in the above areas should now be able to pick up the national digital services by performing an "Autotune" or "Autoscan" with their DAB-enabled tuner or radio. The list of stations available is as follows: Classic FM
Core (mono)
Life (mono)
Oneword (mono)
Planet Rock
talkSPORT (mono)
Virgin Radio
theJazz (mono)
Listeners in the area will also be able to pick up 4 channels of mobile TV and DAB radio on a suitably-equipped mobile 'phone, however, this service is set to close in 2008. DAB digital radio services will remain unaffected and remain free to listen to.
To receive DAB digital radio stations in the UK, you need a DAB digital radio - a type of radio that can receive digital radio broadcasts. For more information, read our guide to DAB digital radio, read DAB digital radio reviews and discover more about radios available to buy.
