Thursday, 11th October 2007 Now Digital win in Northants
With two applicants turning in virtually the same services to appear on DAB digital radio in Northamptonshire, there can be only one winner. Now Digital has this time beaten MuxCo in its bid to run the local radio multiplex serving the county.
Northants 96, Classic Gold 1557 and Connect FM are to launch on the multiplex in September 2008, joined by "play what we want" brand Jack FM and new roads information service Traffic Radio.
Modern rock station Xfm will also take its place on the multiplex alongside 4 other stations. UCB recently signed a deal for carriage on regional DAB multiplexes in England and Wales and, as there is no regional multiplex for the East Midlands, it is likely the station will launch as intended. However, Now Digital removed the station from its application for Northeast Wales and West Cheshire application at the last minute as UCB decided to sign a deal with regional operator MXR. The Northeast Wales licence was eventually awarded to MuxCo.
