Thursday, 19th July 2007 Gloucestershire DAB advertisement likely to pull in one applicant
The local DAB digital radio licence serving Gloucester and the county is currently being advertised by the radio regulator. BBC Radio Gloucestershire is guaranteed carriage on the multiplex.
Local digital radio multiplex operator Now Digital is likely to bid for the multiplex, as parent company GCap Media owns and operates local FM station Severn Sound and classic hits brand Classic Gold in the area served by the new licence.
Now Digital have previously been up against Emap in the East Midlands and Swindon and West Wiltshire local DAB multiplex licences and MuxCo for the Herts, Beds and Buckinghamshire licence. The West Cheshire and Notheast Wales, Hereford and Worcester and Northants DAB multiplex licences have yet to be awarded, but Now Digital faces competition from MuxCo for all three.
If Now Digital make an application, it looks likely their modern rock station Xfm and chillout music station Chill will form part of the mix.
The closing date for applications is 3pm on 24th October 2007. The multiplex is likely to go live in 2009.
