Sunday, 5th February 2006 BBC plots course for DAB digital radio in Canterbury.
BBC urban music station 1 Xtra, comedy and books channel BBC7 and extra sports coverage station Five Live Sports Extra can now be picked up on a DAB digital radio by 53,000 people across Canterbury, Kent.
The switch on of a new transmitter based at Chartham in Kent, west of Canterbury, took place recently.
The switch on of the transmitter allows a full set of the national services from the BBC to be heard on a DAB digital radio in the above areas.
Listeners with a DAB digital radio in and around these areas can receive the new services by performing an "Autotune" or "Autoscan" with their DAB-enabled tuner or radio. The national BBC services now available are as follows:
BBC Asian Network
BBC Radio 1
BBC 1Xtra
BBC Radio 2
BBC Radio 3
BBC Radio 4
BBC Radio Five Live
BBC Five Live Sports Extra
