RadioScape gives car DAB a better reception

DAB module designer RadioScape is launching a new DAB module for use in cars that allows the signal level to be bosted at the base of the aerial.

The RadioScape RS350AT module provides "phantom" power up the antenna cable which can connect to an amplifier at the base of the antenna, reducing the need for coaxial cable to screen the signal between the aerial and car hi-fi unit.

Service linking is also supported by the RS350AT module, so that the radio can tune away to the same station on FM if the DAB signal fades away. The feature will also allow linking between local stations on different multiplexes. The module will allow downloading of travel information or other data services at the same time the user is listening to a station on the same multiplex.

It is anticipated the first products to use the module will be available in early 2005.
