 | As planned, radio operator Emap has launched its non-stop pop music station Smash Hits Radio, currently heard on many other DAB digital radio multiplexes. Pop dance music station Kiss completes the batch of new digital-only stations at launch. Two other stations, yet to be announced, will also be heard on DAB in Staffordshire at some stage in the future. Modern rock station The Storm had also been lined-up for an appearance, however this is now subject to further confirmation - the speculation is that Emap's Kerrang! may launch instead. The new stations join existing AM and FM stations already broadcasting in the area. The current list is:BBC Radio Stoke : news, information and music (BBC Radio)Signal 1 : pop and contemporary music (The Wireless Group)Signal 2 : classic hits and oldies (The Wireless Group)Kiss : current and classic dance anthems (Emap Performance)Smash Hits Radio : non-stop pop music (Emap Performance)
The digital radio multiplex uses Block 12D - one of seven labelled channels currently available for DAB digital radio in the UK. Only listeners with a DAB digital radio tuner can tune in to the new stations. Existing DAB digital radio owners should perform a re-scan or Autotune with their radio over the next few weeks to be certain of picking up all services and any future stations that should launch on the multiplex. To receive DAB digital radio stations in the UK, you need a DAB digital radio - a new type of radio that can receive digital radio broadcasts.
