Swansea Sound starts in stereo

Classic hits and Welsh language MW station Swansea Sound is now broadcasting in stereo on the new DAB digital radio multiplex serving the city of Swansea in South Wales.

Although the multiplex has yet to officially launch, 96.4FM The Wave, Swansea Sound, current pop hit music station Smash Hits Radio and London-based dance music station Kiss are all busy testing on the multiplex, at 128Kbps.

The launch of the multiplex means that for the first time Swansea Sound can be heard in stereo in and around the city and county.

Listeners with a DAB digital radio in Swansea and surrounding areas should perform an "Autotune" or "Autoscan" with their DAB-enabled tuner or radio to receive the new stations. The Swansea services are now testing on channel 12A.

The current confirmed line-up of services for the multiplex, due to officially launch on Saturday, 31st January, is:

  • BBC Radio Cymru

  • BBC Radio Wales

  • 96.4FM The Wave

  • Swansea Sound

  • Smash Hits Radio

  • Kiss

New rock and heavy metal brand Kerrang! and an easy listening station are both due to launch on the multiplex at a later date.

To receive DAB digital radio stations in the UK, you need a DAB digital radio - a new type of radio that can receive digital radio broadcasts. For more information, read our guide to DAB digital radio and discover more about radios available to buy.
