Radio Carmarthenshire licenced in West Wales

Radio Carmarthenshire has successfully secured the new FM licence for the county in West Wales.

Backed by sister station Radio Pembrokshire, the music, news and features service will launch next year.

The station was up against a competing bid from The Wireless Group, which operates 96.4FM The Wave in Swansea. Due to the similarities in some of the coverage area of the two stations, TWG-backed Carmarthenshire Sound withdrew its application in July.

Carmarthenshire Sound would have fallen foul of the Government's new ownership-per-area limits, due to come into effect this Autumn.

The new Radio Pembrokeshire is due to begin broadcasting in 2004.
