The two towns' local DAB digital radio multiplex has just been advertised, with local DAB operator NOWdigital as the sole company hoping to add to its portfolio of multiplexes. The commercial radio regulator will announce its decision as to whether or not to award the new licence this summer. |
 | If NOWdigital is successful in its licence bid, The Storm - modern rock, Saga Radio and Kiss will be heard alongside BBC Radio Berkshire, 2-Ten FM and Classic Gold 1431 & 1485 on DAB digital radio in the area. An "access" service is also promised, with student broadcaster SBN taking the lead for programmes during the evening. Two spare slots on the multipex are planned to be filled within 12 months of the multiplex launch; one is likely to be a station for teens. NOWdigital hopes to provide coverage for 96 percent of adult listeners within the Reading and Basingstoke areas using transmitters at Hannington, Bracknell, Hemdean and Basingstoke. The company also hopes to have launched its service by June 2004, if it wins the licence.
