Cambridge DAB licence advertised universally

The digital radio pin has been stuck firmly into Cambridge, with local services likely to be on-air in early Summer 2004.

The city has only recently been added to the schedule of areas for which digital radio licences will be made available; it was previously thought there would be no spare capacity left for Cambridge.

The licence, which is now being advertised by the commercial radio regulator, will attract interest from local multiplex operator NOWdigital. The company operates digital multiplexes where its parent company, GWR Group plc, has a presence in the marketplace. GWR Group's portfolio includes Cambridge-based chart station Q103.

Interested parties must include space on the multiplex for the carriage of BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and have submitted their proposals to the Radio Authority by August 26th.
