First in-car DAB recordable hi-fi launched by Blaupunkt

Blaupunkt's new car hi-fi unit provide's a functional twist to DAB digital radio - if a show on the digital airwaves takes your fancy you can grab a copy onto multimedia card (MMC) and play it back later on.

The new Blaupunkt 53 is also fitted with a handy CD player that also doubles-up to play MP3 music files on CD-R and CD-R/W discs. The single unit fits into the standard-sized slot found in modern cars.

If DAB reception fails, the Blaupunkt 53 also lets you tune in to stations on FM, MW and LW as it's also equipped with an analogue tuner.

The radio also makes use of the TMC (Traffic Message Channel) piggybacked on Classic FM's RDS signal - an output is available for connecting a suitable route guidance unit that can decode traffic information and work out alternative routes.

There's a removable front panel to deter thieves and the car hi-fi produces 4 x 45 Watts output.
