Never the twain: only TWG Emap Digital apply for Swansea local digi licence

Radio operators The Wireless Group and Emap Digital Radio have clubbed together to apply for the local DAB digital radio multiplex licence serving the Swansea area in South Wales.

TWG's top 40 station 96.4FM The Wave would be joined on DAB by classic hits AMer Swansea Sound alongside several new services including dance station Kiss and current pop music brand Smash Hits radio.

BBC services Radio Wales and Welsh-launguage station Radio Cymru would also take their place on the multiplex.

The multiplex would be up and running by January 2004, with transmitters being added at Llanelli and Camarthen to serve these nearby areas. An announcement is expected at the end of the year, but it is unlikely that the award would not take place, such is the relative infancy of DAB digital radio.
