Which DAB operator wins in Norwich?

Established DAB digital radio operator NOW Digital has yet again beaten off a rival bid by Emap Digital Radio Limited to win another local radio multiplex licence, this time in the East Anglian city of Norwich.

With an expected on-air date as early as March 2003, the new multiplex will use channel block 11B for eight round-the-clock services and a brand new time-share station titled Access Norwich.

They will be joined by BBC station BBC Radio Norfolk. Modern rock station The Storm, green issues and world music station Passion for the Planet and an easy listening or contemporary country music DAB station are new additions to the area. Newcomer Capital Disney, for teenagers and primary schoolgoers, completes the picture.

Access Norwich will offer student output from SBN (Student Broadcast Network) and AbracaDABra. The latter will appeal to children under 10 and their carers.

Earlier in the year, NOW Digital fought off competition from Emap Digital Radio to win the separate local digital radio licences for Swindon & West Wiltshire and Leicester.
