Barnsley tunes in to local sound in 2003

The Borough of Barnsley will tune in to its very own local FM radio station next year. Six applicants are hoping to convince the commercial radio regulator to award the licence to them.

Dearne FM wants to create a station for both adults and children alike, with a comprehensive local news service and an eclectic mix of music.

Barnsley FM applicant logos                            Locke FM is offering a local community-based station, while Oakwell FM plans a music station with hits from the sixties through to the present day. FM 102 The Point has sharpened its application to provide a friendly and informative local station. Select FM intends to appeal to the over-25 age group with everything from sixties music to local sport. Tyke FM wants to bring a wide variety of music to its station, backed up with speech and news.
