Former NetFM MD joins Flix Radio in marketing drive for 'music from the movies' station

The former Managing Director of Internet radio station NetFM, Richard Jacobs, has joined Infinity Media Ltd as Special Projects Consultant with responsibility for marketing Infinity's digital and Internet brand, FLIX Radio.

FLIX Radio became the first terrestrial radio station in the world dedicated to playing nothing but music from the movies when it launched on the Coventry digital multiplex earlier this year.

Infinity's Chairman, Mike Powell, said: 'Richard's experience as one of the UK's Internet radio pioneers will be invaluable to us as we develop a new marketing strategy for FLIX following Infinity's de-merger from former parent, UKRD Group.

'FLIX has been running as an Internet beta test site at flixradio.com since the beginning of the year. Now we are ready to start marketing the service and taking advantage of the incredible following the station has already built organically on the Web. We are also looking forward to rolling out the service on additional digital multiplexes during 2002.'

Richard Jacobs commented:
'I am delighted to be joining Mike and his team at Infinity Media. We share the same passionate belief that convergence will be the key to success as the UK radio industry moves into the digital age.

'With its growing audience FLIX Radio has clearly proven itself to be a popular choice. I am looking forward to the immediate challenge of placing it on additional platforms, providing listeners with more access points to hear this exciting new radio station and marketeers with the opportunity to get involved with a ground-breaking proposition.'

FLIX Radio's Programme Director, Paul Easton, added:
'Reaction to FLIX since its Internet launch has exceeded our expectations. We believe our digital service is one of the most innovative new stations available on DAB. The revolutionary player we are using for the Internet side of our service not only shows simultaneous title and artist information, but within the next few months it will also be showing synchronous graphics alongside our audio output.
'The music on FLIX is a carefully-selected mix of familiar hits that have been featured in films, along with classic movie themes and some gems from the "Golden Age of Hollywood". We also have regular movie and showbiz news every hour, as well as our weekly programme, 'The Lowdown', on Thursdays at 8.00pm (repeated Sundays at 6.00pm).'
