phoenixfm.com takes Les Carter under its wing

Former Carter USM guitarist/songwriter Les “Fruitbat” Carter has taken to the airwaves with Brentwood and Billericay’s local internet radio station phoenixfm.com with a new show, "Getting Fruity On The Radio".

His show, which can be heard worldwide on the station’s website, is an eclectic mix of rock and roll, punk and glam rock from the last thirty years.

Fruitbat was one half of British indie/electronic duo Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine. The band was described at the time as sounding like “a cross between the Pet Shop Boys and the Sex Pistols” and enjoyed a great deal of commercial success in Europe and the UK, where they achieved 12 top 40 singles and 5 top 10 albums during the 1990s, including a No 1, “The Love Album”, in 1992.

In addition the band performed thousands of live shows including headline slots at the Glastonbury and Reading Festivals. Fruitbat has been heavily involved in the music scene since Carter USM split in 1998, with his own record label, Spinach Records, and a new band, Abdoujaparov.

The hour-long shows can currently be heard daily at alternating time slots. Phoenixfm.com has been broadcasting a wide range of music shows since 1996 and includes six-times World Snooker Champion Steve Davis among its specialist music presenters.
