Score Digital beat Switch in battle for Ayr DAB digital radio licence

Score Digital Ltd has emerged as the winner of the Ayr local digital radio licence award. The Scottish Radio Holdings plc-owned company aims to launch many of its digital radio stations by December 2001. West FM will feature on the new multiplex in addition to West Sound. Continuous cool country music station 3C, currently heard on several other local DAB multiplexes, will also be launched in Ayr.

Plans are being drawn up for modern rock, soul and golden oldies stations. UCA Radio from the Univsersity of Paisley is only the second student radio station in the UK to be offered a place on the digital platform, following in the footsteps of Warwick Uni's RaW (Radio Warwick).

Both BBC Radio Scotland and Radio Nan Gaidheal will also be carried on this multiplex, and are expected to launch digitally at a later date.
