Perth and Dundee's digi licence applicants announced

Perth and Dundee's digital multiplex licence advertisment closed today, with two applicants vying for the opportunity to broadcast digital radio to the area. Both Score Digital, a subsidiary of radio operator Scottish Radio Holdings plc, and SwitchDigital, whose shareholders include The Wireless Group and Clear Channel International, have applied to run the licence. There is capacity reserved on the ensemble for BBC Radio Scotland and Gaelic-language BBC Nan Gaidheal to be broadcast digitally. The proposed services are listed below:

Score Digital Ltd.

  • Tay FM : contemporary hit radio (Radio Tay Ltd.)

  • Tay AM : classic and chart hits with sports coverage (Radio Tay Ltd.)

  • 3C : continuous cool country music (Score Digital Ltd.)

  • Wave 102 : soft adult melodic and easy listening music (The Wireless Group plc)

  • Kingdom FM : Music and information for Fife (Kingdom FM Radio Ltd.)

  • The Bridge : Community Access Radio (Bridge FM)

  • New station : Progressive music (provider to be confirmed)

Score Digital Limited hope to begin broadcasting the digital services around 6 months following the award of the licence.

SwitchDigital (Scotland) Ltd.

  • Ministry of Sound radio : commercial and club dance music (Ministry of Sound/Clear Channel International Limited)

  • Ritz : Current and classic country music (RMG plc.)

  • The Lounge : easy listening music (Score Digital Ltd.)

  • RNA FM : Local community radio (Radio North Angus)

  • Heartland FM : Local community radio (Heartland Radio Foundation)

  • Tay FM : contemporary hit radio (Radio Tay Ltd.)

  • Tay AM : classic and chart hits with sports coverage (Radio Tay Ltd.)

The two community radio stations, Heartland FM and Kingdom, are part-time services only. If SwitchDigital win the digital multiplex licence for Dundee and Perth, the new digital stations will be on air by May 2002.

It is expected the licence will be awarded by the Radio Authority in early Autumn.
