Access Radio brings opportunity for launch of station in South-West Wales

The Radio Authority's plan to start an access radio pilot scheme from January next year might mean the launch of Gold Coast - a new access station for South-West Wales. Phil England from Camarthenshire has declared his intent to take part in the pilot scheme and set up the new station, which will help inform the future regulator of the radio industry (Ofcom, to replace the Radio Authority) whether Access Radio is a viable concept, and if it is to be introduced in future, how it might be licensed, regulated, funded, promoted and organised.

Gold Coast will feature community information, Asian programming, memorable music from the 1950s to the current day, country music, Welsh music and entertainment, and youth programming.

The website for Gold Coast FM/AM will give more information about the station when it becomes available. Feedback is also welcomed at the website.

Pilot project licences for Access Radio will last for up to a year and will be licensed under the existing restricted service licence scheme.
