talkSPORT's losses narrow as match day commentary for the capital is announced
talkSPORT's aim to bring in a younger, male listening audience has helped narrow the station's losses by £1.6 million last year. The Wireless Group, which owns the national sport-and-talk station, as a whole reported a £12.3 million loss for the financial year. Kelvin MacKenzie said of talkSPORT:
"Our listeners used to be 52 year old women who are hard to sell to, but now it's 36 year old upmarket men".
talkSPORT now has 2.2 million listeners, 76% of which are men. The station plans to broadcast live commentary from Chelsea, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur matches from August, using its London AM transmission frequency.
