Sony XDRM1 personal DAB radio walkman

Sony has introduced a new pocket DAB handheld radio to the market. The Sony XDR M1 DAB handheld radio offers Band III (but not Band L) digital radio reception and even has the FM waveband covered, too.

The Sony XDRM1 DAB radio measures in at 88 x 60 x 21mm, packs 40 memory presets and has a large 4 line matrix display with backlight. Navigation is provided by an up/down circular button in the centre of the unit, with 4 other surrounding buttons to select waveband, favourites, station information and menu functions.

The Sony XDRM1 DAB personal radio has a volume control on the side and a remote control integrated into the headphones.

Please note the Sony XDRM1 DAB handheld (UK version) does not feature Band L reception.

New services on DAB digital radio

As we're away, here's a quick roundup of DAB digital service changes and introductions in the last month or so...

- NOW Digital has introduced a new stereo radio station to its local radio multiplexes. Chill can now be heard on all NOW Digital DAB digital radio multiplexes, playing chillout music to relax to.


- Childrens' Radio, a new service for kids, has been launched on the NOW Digital multiplexes serving Southend and Chelmsford, Reading and Bristol. The station has also taken the place of AbracaDABra on London's 3rd local DAB multiplex. Broadcasting in mono, the station plays pop music alongside entertainment for children.

Pure Digital has launched the world's first talking DAB digital radio, the Pure Sonus 1XT. The Sonus 1XT offers iVOX™ technology, allowing the listener to hear voice feedback from the radio for a variety of functions.
