![]() | Thursday, 23rd September 2010 Local services for Surrey DAB digital radio likely in summer 2011 Surrey will see the launch of its own county-wide DAB digital radio multiplex in summer 2011, it has been announced. The operator of the local digital radio multiplex for the county, MuxCo, is finalising plans to reduce the original transmission area - planned to cover parts of northern Sussex - giving extra coverage to stations broadcasting on the adjacent Sussex Coast multiplex. The Sussex Coast (Brighton and Hove) multiplex is already on air and is run by Now Digital. MuxCo has been waiting for the Digital Economy Act to become law, giving them the opportunity to adjust the transmission areas of their local multiplexes to encourage more stations onto DAB in the drive to digital. MuxCo Surrey BBC Surrey : news, information and music 96.4 Eagle Radio : current and classic hits for Guildford County Sound : classic hits for Horsham, Reigate and Haselmere Shuffle : chart, dance and rock tracks with listener-generated content Other stations and podcasts are due to be announced nearer launch. MuxCo are proposing a revised launch of "summer 2011" for its DAB multiplex, with transmitters likely at Guildford, Reigate and Leatherhead. MuxCo won the licence to run the multiplex for Surrey and north Sussex in May 2008. Ofcom was recently granted powers to allow multiplex operators to adjust their transmission areas. |
